Update

Sooooo….

It’s been a while, but that’s a good thing. Things are increasingly improving at a rather dramatic rate within my own life.

My wife has finally hopped on the ‘health’ bandwagon with me. She’s tired of being ‘plump’ and wants to lose some weight, and more importantly, she wants to put on some muscle so she can be active [like soccer, archery, etc…]. Because of this sudden change [I pin part of this on the sudden change of weather, my wife decided to finally look into a way to get us into a gym. Because of our rather ‘remote’ location our options were the college and the local YMCA. The college screwed both of us when we attended there and we’re set on never giving them another dime. So, we looked at the ‘Y’. I recently just took a job at a Subway [worked there six years through high school and college, why not another 7th while searching for teaching jobs?], and was promoted to manager after 5 days. Giving us some added income. The ‘Y’ also offers scholarships if you qualify for it, which my wife and I do, meaning that instead of forking out $50 a month, we’re now paying $15 a month for access to a gym.

My wife found Zumba [don’t even get me started on that].

I was reaquainted with the tredmill, the bike, and the elliptical. On top of that, I finally got some new shoes just for running:

So, I’m back on the track, I love being on the treadmill. I workout 5 days a week, Monday-Friday. I also got new casual shoes, they’re called Go-Lite’s, they’re actually trail running shoes that force me to step with the balls of my feet, instead of striking with my heal as I’ve done for years.

It was a great week, I’m burning between 1000-2000 calories a day. My weight is down to 252, meaning I’m now thirty pounds away from my goal weight. Last night while I was running I could feel my quads start to ‘fire’, I could feel each muscle in my legs, the electricity flowing through them. It was incredible, naturally today, a rest day, I’m completely exhausted, but that’s completely ok. Pop is a rarity, usually drank in small numbers during the weekend. Having Gatorade back has been delightful [stopped drinking it when I wasn’t active because it isn’t that great for you if you don’t need it].

Overall I’m just feeling better. I can’t wait until Monday when I can get back at it after work and put in some serious numbers.

Either way: I’m not dead, I’m finally living, and while I’m not back to where I want to be, shape-wise, I’m at least making progress.
